This fellowship was established in 2009 through the Estate of Marian O. Naumberg and honors Professor Ginsberg, a pioneer in the field of environmental law who taught at Hofstra Law for 29 years.
The Ginsberg Fellowship awards a stipend in an amount up to $7,500 to a promising Hofstra Law student to pursue public interest environmental work during the summer or academic year. Through a special arrangement with the Natural Resources Defense Council, the fellowship recipient may have the opportunity to be considered for a position in the NRDC’s prestigious and highly competitive summer internship program. All students who have completed their first year of law school are eligible to apply.
The recipient of the Ginsberg Fellowship is selected through an application process that will include submission of a written application (including a statement of interest, resume, legal writing sample and academic transcript) and an interview for selected candidates. Criteria for selection of the fellowship recipient will include, among other things:
- academic excellence, particularly in the field of environmental law;
- demonstrated commitment to the environment;
- demonstrated commitment to public service; and
- diversity.
