Before the first class, please do the following:
Sign up for this class on TWEN.
Read the Syllabus on TWEN carefully. We will be reviewing it at the first class.
We will be continuing our discussion of persuasive writing. This semester we will focus on
advocacy in the context of drafting an appellate brief. Please review Chapters 23-24 and
26-28 in the Neumann book (which we covered last semester).
Also please look over this two part article on Persuasive Writing:
a. From Objective to Persuasive Writing – Part 1
b. From Objective to Persuasive Writing – Part 2
View Lexis/Westlaw Classes: Lexis and Westlaw will each be posting a research class on YouTube. These sessions are specifically geared to appellate research, which is what you will be doing this semester. Students MUST view both classes, these classes are mandatory. You will be asked to submit a form through TWEN verifying your attendance. Failure to attend both classes will negatively impact your professionalism grade. I will provide you for the link for each of the classes. If you have any questions, please email our Westlaw Rep, Stefanie Efrati stefanie.efrati@thomsonreuters.com or our Lexis Rep, Ann Stafilias antoinette.stafilias@lexisnexis.com
Friday, January 22, 2021 (Class 2)
MANDATORY EXTRA CLASS FROM 12:15-2 Via ZOOM
Read Chapters 29-32 in Neumann, and look over Appendices G and H.
The Appellate Record that you will be relying on in drafting your own appellate will be posted on TWEN. Start to read and research the record; start preparing your research journal & fact chronology. Look it over before class on Tuesday, January 26th
