Welcome
A Chapter of the National Latino/a Law Student Association (NLLSA)
Mission Statement
The Latino/a American Law Student Association at Hofstra University School of Law serves the following purposes:
- To articulate and promote the needs and goals of Latino law students, locally and regionally.
- To foster and promote an attitude of professional competence.
- To focus upon the relationship of Latino law students to the American legal structure and Latin community.
- To enhance and create a well-established highway of communication among the community of Latino attorneys and law students.
The Latino/a American Law Student Association was founded in 1987 by Honorable Judge Sallie Manzanet (class of 1988), the youngest Hispanic justice elected to the New York Supreme Court. LALSA was established to help Latino students adjust to the law school environment. LALSA is committed to identifying the academic and social needs of students at Hofstra Law. Throughout the year we host several events, including a Diversity Welcome Weekend, a Judicial Panel, a networking Roundtable Event, and the Annual Banquet. The LALSA Chapter at Hofstra Law has established strong ties with the various Hispanic legal organizations, including the
Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), the
Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF), the
Dominican Bar Association, and the
Puerto Rican Bar Association.
