Summer courses give law students an opportunity to satisfy graduation requirements or to lighten their course load during the school year. For the benefit of students who might be working over the summer, a number of the courses are in the late afternoon/evening. We also offer intensive skills courses.

Summer Skills Institute
The Maurice A. Deane School of Law’s Summer Skills Institute is open to all law students and lawyers looking to receive intensive skills training.
The emphasis throughout this program is on active participation, resulting in immediate individualized feedback from practicing lawyers, judges and Hofstra Law’s outstanding faculty.
Classes are scheduled between May and August, and many last a week or less. Students and lawyers will be awarded between one and three credits per class.
Study Abroad Program in Pisa, Italy
Gain a new perspective on the American and European legal systems by studying at a renowned European university this summer in Pisa, Italy.
Through an intensive two-week course of study, the Pisa program aims to introduce students to the different kinds of nonjudicial methods used to resolve commercial disputes in the international context.
Participants earn 3 or 5 credits by taking courses taught by Professors Janet Dolgin and Giovanni Comandé.
This year’s courses are: Comparative Bioethics and Health Policy (2 credits), and Comparative Health Care Liability: Compensation for Medical Accidents (1 credit). There is also an additional course for 5 credit program: Law, Health and Technology (2 credits)
Externships (Hofstra Law Students Only)
Hofstra Law’s Externship Program is designed to provide you with an opportunity to gain substantive legal experience, under the direct supervision and guidance of an experienced attorney.
Students receive academic credit while getting hands-on experience in courtrooms, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and in other legal placements.
