Concentrations

Build relationships with faculty in your relevant area of law.

The concentration program helps you build relationships with faculty in your relevant area of law, select courses that will provide you with a broad knowledge of the field, and identify and pursue activities in the subject of the concentration.

Concentrations

Business Law Honors

In the Business Law Honors Concentration, you will receive instruction and training in those subject areas fundamental to the practice of transactional attorneys and corporate litigators, in addition to instruction in specialized, related subject areas of your choosing.

Corporate Compliance

In the Corporate Compliance Concentration, you will become familiar with the complementary roles that state, federal, and administrative law play in the regulation of business entities. You’ll also develop an appreciation for the business considerations that drive corporate decision-making in general and the role of the compliance attorney in particular. And you’ll acquire an awareness of current events and trends affecting regulated entities in the United States.

Criminal Law and Procedure

In the Criminal Law and Procedure Concentration, you will receive instruction and training in those subjects and skills that are fundamental to the real-world practice of criminal law.

Family Law

In the Family Law Concentration, you will receive instruction and training in those subject areas fundamental to family law practice, in addition to instruction in specialized, related subject areas of your choosing. You’ll also receive intensive guidance on your course of study.

Health Law

Health Law is now a complicated, heterogeneous domain of law, so practicing it may call for special skills in corporate law, bioethics, family law, Internet and technology law, and tort law, as well as in other areas of law. To enable you to prepare for a career in health law, Hofstra Law offers a Health Law Concentration and two specializations. This allows you to take advantage of our broad curriculum to design an academic program that best serves your career interests.

Intellectual Property Law Honors

In the Intellectual Property Law Honors Concentration, you will receive instruction and training in those subject areas fundamental to the practice of intellectual property attorneys, in addition to instruction in specialized, related subject areas of your choosing.

International Law Honors

In an increasingly globalized world, the study of international law subjects is increasingly vital to legal education and practice. The faculty has already recognized this reality by requiring Transnational Law in the first year. In the International Law Honors Concentration, you will receive additional instruction and training in subject areas fundamental to the development of a transnational legal practice and in specialized courses related to your individualized career goals.

Declaring a Concentration

Thereafter, students must submit a Concentration Course Selection Form no later than the course drop/add deadline in each semester in which they are enrolled in a concentration. To certify satisfactory completion of a concentration, students must submit a Concentration Completion Form, signed by the faculty advisor.
