Alumni Services at the Law Library

As part of its mission, the Law Library seeks to meet the legal research needs of Hofstra Law alumni. Hofstra Law alumni are welcome to visit the Library and to use the Library’s resources, including many of our online databases.

Hofstra University Alumni ID Card

Law School graduates are eligible for a free Hofstra University Alumni ID Card, which grants them continued access to the Law Library during regular business hours, other campus libraries, and other university perks. To receive an Alumni ID Card, graduates must visit Elizabeth LaFaye, located in the Dean’s Office. Graduates must present a photo ID and provide their most up-to-date home, business, and email address. They will then receive a temporary document that they will then need to bring to Hofstra’s Card Services Department (located in the Student Center) where they are issued a permanent card.

Reference Assistance

Our reference librarians are also available to provide advice on research. They have law degrees in addition to other advanced education and are available to assist you at the Reference Desk and over the phone (516-463-5908). Links to frequently requested information are available on this page, and we look forward to assisting you in the coming years.

Westlaw and Lexis access

Although we are not permitted to give alumni passwords for academic Westlaw and Lexis access, the Library has a Westlaw Public Access Computer (WestPAC) available for alumni use that provides a tailored slice of primary and secondary materials. Hofstra Law alumni can also use LexisNexis Academic (a different version of LexisNexis) for Shepardizing and legal research, including searching law reviews.

Online Resources

Hofstra Law alumni may access a number of specialized databases from public computers in the Library, including HeinOnline. A full list of the Library’s online resources is available here. You must come to the Library in order to access these databases. WoltersKluwer databases are expressly reserved for educational use only for Hofstra faculty and students, under the terms of our licensing agreement.

Printing for WestPAC or other online resources is available from all four public-access terminals and costs 5 cents per page. Scanning is also available free of charge. Hofstra Law alumni who use these resources may also bring a flash drive to download the results.

Hofstra Law alumni do not have borrowing privileges at the Law Library. Several photocopiers and a scanner are available for patrons to copy and scan small portions of the Library’s print materials.

Axinn Library

Hofstra Law alumni are also welcome to use the Axinn Library.
