2007 Legal Ethics Conference

Statement to the Media Regarding Conference Appearance by Lynne Stewart:
"Lawyering at the Edge" is a 3-day conference about representing unpopular clients and handling difficult cases. It is the sixth in a series of renowned legal ethics conferences hosted by Hofstra Law School since 1996. All of the invited conference faculty have stories to tell about the dangers and difficulties of advocating for controversial and even abhorrent clients and causes. The Law School does not support or endorse any speaker's views, but presents the opportunity for the audience, which consists largely of practicing lawyers, law professors and law students, to listen to different perspectives and question and debate conclusions. Ms. Stewart, as one of 20 conference speakers, is not speaking as an expert in ethics but rather will provide students with a unique case study. She will be subject to questioning by conference attendees for 20 - 30 minutes.

Hofstra Law School is pleased to announce the upcoming 2007 Legal Ethics Conference, entitled, "Legal Ethics: Lawyering at the Edge," scheduled for Sunday-Tuesday, October 14-16, 2007. Do not miss this riveting and timely conference. Dynamic speakers will weigh in on controversial issues such as defending prisoners at Guantanamo, representing unpopular clients and causes, and curbing prosecutorial abuse.

In the tradition of Hofstra's Biennial Ethics Conference Program, "Lawyering at the Edge" will feature many prominent experts in the field of ethics, as well as preeminent and high profile criminal defense and civil rights practitioners.
