Specialized Externship Programs

In addition to civil and criminal externship programs, the Maurice A. Deane School of Law offers several specialized externship programs.

Clinical Prosecution Practicum

This 6-credit practicum offers students the opportunity to work in a local district attorney’s office and to participate under a Student Practice Order in the prosecution of criminal cases under the close supervision of a faculty member, as well as an assistant district attorney who serves as the field placement supervisor.

Global Legal Practice Externship

Students can earn 3 credits during the summer session in the Global Legal Practice Externship program and are placed with nonprofit organizations and law offices internationally.

Placements are available in Barcelona, Dublin, Florence, London, Paris, Shanghai and Sydney. 

Hofstra Law in D.C.

During the fall semester of their 3L year, students have the opportunity to work as full-time legal interns with governmental, congressional and nonprofit field placements in the nation’s capital.

Students receive 10 credits for their field placement and 3 credits for the companion seminar.

Pro Bono Scholars Program

During the spring semester of their 3L year, students have the opportunity to work full time for 12 weeks providing pro bono legal assistance, and in exchange may take the New York bar exam in February and (assuming a passing score and successful completion of all graduation requirements) be admitted to the New York bar in June.

Students receive 10 credits for their field placement and 2 credits for the companion seminar.
