Tolu Akinsanya 2L

"Raised and educated in Nigeria, Tolu Akinsanya followed his sister to the United States after receiving his undergraduate degree at the University of Lagos. His performance on the LSAT solidified his decision to pursue law, and he chose Hofstra Law, not only for the quality of its faculty and proximity to the New York legal market, but also for an accommodating application process that is well-suited to international students. "The admissions office was very understanding and helped me get through a lot of red tape," says Akinsanya.

Francisco Cebada 2L

"Within the first few months of classes, I knew I had made the right decision," says 2L Francisco Cebada of his choice to attend the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. Cebada, who was considering law schools in Pennsylvania and Florida, ultimately chose Hofstra Law for the quality of its education and its proximity and connections to the New York law community, where he hopes to build his career.

Val Hoxha LL.M. 3L

Even before enrolling at Hofstra Law, Val Hoxha experienced the school's strong sense of community. While attending an admitted students reception, she noted feeling a "lawyerly vibe" and was struck by her personal interaction with Dean Demleitner and faculty members. She adds, "It was a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere — something that can be hard to find in New York, which is sometimes known for being so aggressive."

Michelle Marcellus 3L

As a 1L, Michelle Marcellus was a bit surprised to be invited to the Law School's "In Honor of Justice" dinner back in January, an event honoring the 116 Hofstra Law alumni currently serving as judges. Yet there she was in a room packed with some of the school's most esteemed graduates. "The only way it could have been more intimidating," she jokes, "was if they were wielding gavels."

Jonathan Nasca 2L

Jonathan Nasca embraced his first year at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University with a vengeance and is reaping the rewards. "I was fully aware of the work and time commitments, which helped me do well," he says. That might be an understatement for Nasca, who entered his 2L year ranked No. 1 in his class.

Trinh Tran 3L

As the managing editor of Family Court Review, one of Hofstra Law’s five law journals, Trinh Tran manages staff and oversees article selection, development and editing for this unique publication, which is written not only by lawyers, but also by other professionals, including doctors, social workers and psychologists. Despite the workload, Tran appreciates the added insight and experience.

Camile Tucker 2L

Camile Tucker knows the meaning of independence. At age 18, she came from Jamaica to attend Defiance College in Ohio. It was quite an adjustment, to say the least. While she had an inkling of what it might be like to go to school in some of America’s bigger cities, she had to get used to life as the only Caribbean student in a small rural town. Despite what she describes as "tragic weather," Tucker soon found a strong support system and channeled an independent spirit that would earn her a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, in criminal justice.
