Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis to Deliver Hofstra Law Commencement Address
U.S. District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis will deliver the keynote address at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law’s commencement ceremony, to be held on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex, Hofstra University, in Hempstead, N.Y.
Judge Garaufis entered service as a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of New York on August 28, 2000. He was nominated by President Clinton on February 28, 2000, upon the recommendation of U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York. Prior to his appointment, Judge Garaufis served for more than five years as the chief counsel for the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C., overseeing a staff of 200 attorneys. Judge Garaufis began his legal career in 1974 as an associate at Chadbourne & Parke. He received his B.A. from Columbia College in 1969 and his J.D. from the Columbia Law School in 1974.
