HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University student Kaitlyn Flynn won second place at Baylor Law School's 2013 Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition on June 9.

Flynn competed against top trial advocacy students from 15 other law schools in the invitation-only mock trial competition. She was coached by Hofstra Law adjunct professor Jared Rosenblatt.

“Kaitlyn's performance this past week was outstanding and impressive for a seasoned attorney, let alone someone who just finished her 2L year,” said Professor Rosenblatt. “I am extremely proud of her accomplishments not only this weekend, but the last two years. Her results demonstrate the success of Hofstra Law's commitment to our trial advocacy program.”

Unlike other mock trial competitions, participants do not receive the case file until they arrive in Waco — just 24 hours before the first round of trials begin.

“Preparing a full jury trial in 24 hours was incredibly challenging, but I learned more about trial advocacy during the 3 days of the competition than I have in any classroom,” said Flynn. “It was an honor to be selected to compete at the competition and an honor to also represent Hofstra Law. The competition was one of the most rewarding things I have done at law school so far.”

Founded in 2010, the Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition is an innovative, invitation-only mock trial tournament where the single best advocates from the top 16 trial advocacy schools go head-to-head for the honor of Top Gun. It's a winner-takes-all event, with a prize of $10,000.

More information about the competition can be found on Baylor Law’s website.
