Proceeds from the event will support the 2012 Public Justice Foundation (PJF) Fellowships, which provide funding to students pursuing nonpaying summer internships in the public sector. In 2011, the PJF raised a record $48,536, which enabled 44 law students to receive stipends for internships they otherwise would have been unable to accept due to financial constraints.
Each year the PJF selects a Hofstra Law graduate to receive an award in recognition of his or her dedication to public justice and public service. This year’s honoree was former New York Gov. David A. Paterson ’82.
“PJF’s history of exposing Hofstra Law students to fulfilling internships is a priceless complement to the already outstanding law education students attain here, particularly at a time when the public sector is in need of bright minds,” said Paterson. “PJF is crafting the next generation of policy mavens.”
PJF’s 23rd Annual Gala Goods and Services Auction will take place on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.
