Dean Nora V. Demleitner to Depart at End of Academic Year
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Nora V. Demleitner, dean of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, has announced that she has accepted the deanship at Washington and Lee University’s School of Law beginning July 1, 2012. Demleitner will remain at Hofstra Law through June 2012.
“It has been an honor to serve as dean for the last few years,” said Demleitner. “Hofstra Law has been a special place from its inception, with an exceptionally talented and dedicated faculty, an ever more diverse and exciting student body and now also a highly successful group of devoted alumni. I am deeply grateful to everyone with whom I have worked for their insights, wisdom and dedication to Hofstra Law. Surely, these will always be among the most memorable and enriching years of my life. I am looking forward to proudly watching Hofstra Law excel ever further.”
Since being named dean in 2008, Demleitner has worked to expand Hofstra Law’s international curriculum and opportunities for students, as well as recruit and develop faculty who provide students with both a theoretical and practical understanding of the law. Demleitner has also overseen the creation of a new professional development program, expansion of the school’s alumni and advisory boards and a yearlong series of events celebrating Hofstra Law’s 40th anniversary.
In the new year, Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz will appoint an interim dean, who will serve beginning in July 2012, as well as name a search committee to conduct a national search for a successor to Demleitner.
