HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Hofstra Law School has launched “Lex Lounge,” an invitation-only social networking Web site for Hofstra Law students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Developed and designed by Assistant Dean for Administration and Operations
Jeffrey A. Dodge, Webmaster
Michael G. Wagner and Creative Director
Tobie-Lynn Accardi, Lex Lounge allows members of the Hofstra Law community to communicate with each other about topics such as classes, organizations, competitions, activities, events, book swaps and carpooling.
“We are very student-focused at Hofstra Law and Lex Lounge offers a way to communicate through social networking, which is a familiar format for our students,” said Dean Dodge. “We already have more than 700 student members and over 40 student organizations using Lex Lounge. The hope is that every student, faculty member and administrator will eventually join. I expect this new medium of communication to bring the student experience to life beyond the physical building, while instilling professional skills and etiquette in social networking.”
Lex Lounge members are able to create invitations to events, post photographs or videos, blog, set up RSS feeds and chat live with friends, all in an exclusive community. Michael G. Wagner, the technical architect of the Web site, said, “Lex Lounge offers privacy features such as accessibility only to members of Hofstra Law School, while taking advantage of the features offered by larger public social networking sites.”
In addition, Lex Lounge enhances the academic experience by allowing students to discuss classes, post questions and organize study groups.
“Lex Lounge allows faculty, staff, and administrators to better support and guide students so they can thrive in the demanding law school environment,” said Claire O’Keefe, director of student affairs. Lisa McCluskey, also a director of student affairs, added, “Student organizations can post news and event information, making it easier to inform students and increase involvement.”
As the site is not accessible to the public, members of the media interested in exploring Lex Lounge should contact Jeffrey A. Dodge, Assistant Dean for Administration & Operations, at
