HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Nine Hofstra Law students have been selected for the 2009 Law Students Public Interest (LSPIN) Fellowship Program, run by The Charles H. Revson Foundation.  Winners receive $4,500 to work at public interest organizations in the New York metropolitan area.

“We are very proud of our LSPIN Fellows,” said Hofstra Law Dean Nora V. Demleitner.  “They are truly committed to public service and I have no doubt they’ll make a lasting impact on their communities.”  

Approximately 300 applicants from 18 law schools compete annually for the 75 fellowship awards.  This year, a record 44 Hofstra Law students applied for the Fellowship and for the third year in a row, Hofstra Law had one of the highest number of students selected for the Fellowship.

Ashley Lorance (2010) – Center for Human Rights and Global Justice – New York, NY

Jeffrey Miller (2011) – Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee Inc. – Islandia, NY

Julie Schaul (2010) – Mental Hygiene Legal Service – Mineola, NY

Robert Spataro (2011) – Office of the Nassau County Attorney – Mineola, NY

Jamie Wisneski (2010) – Medicare Rights Center – New York, NY

Hofstra Law was named one of the country’s best public interest law schools by preLaw magazine, a national publication aimed at prospective law students.   Among the 75 law schools that made the list, Hofstra ranked 11th.
