Hofstra Law Students Sponsor Art Contest For Uniondale Grade-Schoolers
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Nearly 40 Uniondale children submitted their creations for an art contest sponsored by Hofstra Law School’s
Family Court Review, a journal published by the Law School. Participating students were first and fifth graders from Uniondale’s California Avenue Elementary School, which is located next door to the Law School. Their works were judged by student editors of the Family Court Review.
Uniondale art teachers Dale Santiago and Erik Sumner (photo above, left) accompanied the student artists to a November 14 luncheon and awards ceremony at the Law School where each student received a certificate and small prize. Fifteen top submissions will be framed and hung in the Family Court Review’s office at Hofstra. There has already been an overwhelming demand for the children’s artwork to be displayed in the offices of law professors, judges and family law practitioners.
The Family Court Review is an interdisciplinary journal geared towards helping families and children involved in the legal and child welfare system. In four quarterly issues, the journal promotes a frank discussion of ways to improve the foster care system, divorce process, parental and children's rights, and other issues facing families and children. It is published by Hofstra’s Center for Children, Families and the Law, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
