Barbara Lukeman is a partner in the law firm of Nixon Peabody LLP in its New York City office. Her practice focuses on issues that recur in bringing a product to market including risk assessment, advice on packaging, instructions, product labeling, warnings, reporting obligations to governmental agencies and product recall procedures. She has significant experience defending manufacturers, importers, and distributors of industrial and consumer products, automobiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices against claims involving design defect, manufacturing defect, contamination, breach of warranty, and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Professor Lukeman is also an active member of the firm’s Food and Beverage Industry Team.
In addition to the products liability course she currently teaches, Professor Lukeman has taught several skills-based and substantive law courses at Hofstra University School of Law including New York civil practice, appellate advocacy, research and writing, legal methods and a skills-based course for foreign-trained LL.M. students. She is also a frequent writer and lecturer in the areas of products liability, consumer product safety, and food and beverage law.
