Biography
Franca Sachs holds a B.A. from
Queens College and a J.D. from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra
University. She joined the administration of Hofstra Law in 2006 and currently
serves as the executive director of pro bono, externship and fellowship
programs. She is responsible for the law school’s three fellowship programs, in
Child and Family Advocacy, Health Law and Policy, and LGBT Rights. She
develops and administers the projects of Hofstra Law’s Center for Children,
Families and the Law, including the Hempstead High School Mock Trial program,
the Youth Advocacy Center’s Getting Beyond the System Self Advocacy Seminar
and Hofstra Law’s partnership with the Nassau County Youth Court. She also
oversees the administration of the Law School’s externship and pro bono
programs.
Prior to her study of law, Ms. Sachs worked as a foster care caseworker, where she assisted youth aging out of the foster care system with the transition to adulthood and worked with youth
and their families to prepare for reunification.
Ms. Sachs is an active member of the Safe & Supportive Schools and Communities Consortium. From 2005 to 2006, she served as a member of the Council on Children at the New York City Bar Association, and from 2009 to 2010, as a mentor to youth in foster care.
