U.S. District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis will deliver the keynote address at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law’s commencement ceremony, to be held on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Class Notes

Ilene S. Cooper '79, a partner at Farrell Fritz, was elected as the Suffolk County Bar Association representative to the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates. She will serve a one-year term beginning June 1, 2013.

Gregg E. Clifton '85 assumed the role of managing partner of the Phoenix office of Jackson Lewis in January 2013. He is co-chair of the firm’s Collegiate and Professional Sports Industry Group and serves as one of the editors of the firm’s Collegiate & Professional Sports Law Blog.

Hon. Norman St. George '88
was appointed in February 2013 as supervising judge of the Nassau County District Court.

Samuel A. Khalil '03 was elected a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in January 2013. He is a member of the firm’s financial restructuring group.

for Career Services
Hofstra Law announced that Christopher J. Caruso ’00 has been named Associate Dean for Career Services. Caruso, who received his J.D. from Hofstra Law in 2000, was most recently a partner at Moses & Singer LLP.
Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy Launched
Hofstra Law officially launched the Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy last month at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), one of the new institute’s medical partners.

The Alumni Association, which is made up of the more than 10,300 alumni of Hofstra Law, is led by an executive board consisting of a President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President and a Secretary. We are currently seeking nominations for these positions. The Nominating Committee will present a final slate of nominees for a vote at the September 19 Open Board meeting.

Hofstra Law has named Raechel J. Horowitz 1L and Seth A. Nadel 1L as the 2013 recipients of the Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP Annual Scholarship, a tuition scholarship awarded to one or more first-year law students.
Disaster Recovery Clinic
Expands Sandy Efforts
The Disaster Recovery Clinic, which currently represents small businesses affected by Superstorm Sandy, will be expanding its efforts to include individuals affected by the storm. To fund this expansion, Hofstra Law secured a $100,000 grant from the Robin Hood Foundation and a $25,000 grant from the Long Island Community Foundation.
