June 2013: In cooperation with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, Hofstra Law hosts the “Training the Lawyer to Represent the Whole Family” program.
April 2013: Hofstra Law partners with the New York State Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children to host the New York State Leadership Summit on School-Justice Partnerships: Keeping Kids in School and Out of Court.
November 2012: Hofstra Law hosts the conference “Immigrants and the Family Court: Policies, Practice and Systemic Change.”
July 2012: Hofstra Law hosts the Nassau County Youth Court volunteer appreciation dinner and mock hearing. The Nassau County Youth Court is a program that allows adolescents to adjudicate low-level criminal offenses committed by their peers.
June 2012: Professor Andrew Schepard receives the John E. VanDuzer Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. The award recognizes outstanding contributions and/or achievements by members of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
June 2012: Franca Sachs receives the Making a Difference for Women Award from Soroptimist International of Nassau County.
April 2012: Hofstra Law hosts the awards ceremony for the Hempstead High School Mock Trial Team. The team was established in 2008 with support and coaching assistance from Hofstra Law students.
April 2012: Hofstra Law hosts the Getting Beyond the System (GBS) graduation ceremony. The GBS seminar, taught by Hofstra Law students, aims to assist local disadvantaged youth by imparting critical decision-making skills that will enable them to become their own best advocates and plan for their future success.
