Hofstra University School of Law, Hempstead, NY: What does a smart, savvy Manhattan attorney do when she’s invited to her ex-boyfriend’s wedding? Well, she attends the wedding and then writes a fictional novel about her experience. This is exactly what Hofstra Law alumna, Brenda Janowitz ’98, did—and in the process, sold her first novel to Red Dress Ink in a two book deal. SCOT ON THE ROCKS (How I Survived My Ex-Boyfriend’s Wedding With My Dignity Ever So Slightly Intact) will be on bookshelves in April 2007.
The book, which chronicles the life of a Manhattan attorney who loses her boyfriend just days before her ex-boyfriend's wedding, is a wild and humorous tale, based on the author's own real-life experiences. “One of the most unique aspects of the novel is the detail about being an attorney at a large law firm in Manhattan,” Brenda says. “The four central characters are all attorneys, and I drew from my own experience practicing law at a large law firm.”
Brenda currently lives in Manhattan, where she is hard at work on her second novel. The Hofstra Law community is proud of her and wishes her much success!
