Hofstra Law Hosts Immigration Workshop

Hofstra Law is hosting “Emerging Immigration and Citizenship Law Scholars Workshop” on July 16 and 17, 2009.  The workshop is open to emerging law professors who have been teaching, researching and writing about immigration law, nationality law and related subjects on a full-time basis for eight years or less.

The workshop will consist of the following sessions:  a plenary introductory session where participants introduce themselves and their scholarly agendas; small group works-in-progress sessions; small group "incubator" sessions for paper or book ideas still in an early stage; break-out teaching sessions and a final plenary wrap-up session.

The size of each session will depend on the total workshop size and the number of works-in-progress submitted. Each paper will have a commentator, who will assume that all attendees will have read the paper in advance and will proceed immediately to discussion. 

The teaching sessions will be conducted as break-out sessions dedicated to different topics, including a session for very new teachers, a session on teaching practical skills in immigration law classes and a session on innovative teaching methods.

In addition to Hofsta Law administrators, planning committee members include Jennifer Chacón of UC Davis School of Law (UC Irvine School of Law beginning fall 2009), Rose Cuison Villazor of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law (Hofstra Law beginning fall 2009), Karla McKanders of University of Tennessee College of Law and Rick Su of University of Buffalo Law School.
