Hofstra presents panels on “The Financial Meltdown”

Hofstra Law School, Hempstead, N.Y. —

Hofstra’s Journal of International Business and Law (JIBL) will present two panels discussing “The Financial Meltdown” on Wednesday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hofstra Law School, Room 230.  To view the webcast, visit Hofstra Law's webchannel: law.hofstra.edu/webcast.

The panels will be preceded with introductory remarks by Salvatore Sodano, Dean of the Zarb School of Business, former head of the American Stock Exchange and Vice Chairman of the National Association of Securities Dealers. 

The first panel will discuss the impact of the global economic crisis on nonprofit organizations.  "When we talk about the economy and the financial crisis, too often we forget how nonprofit organizations are affected by it.  Panelists will discuss ways in which nonprofits adapt and survive during these tough economic times," said Brian Farrar, Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of International Business and Law.

“The Financial Meltdown: Nonprofits” panelists are:

•    Michael Carter, Compliance Education Specialist, New York State Credit Union League
•    David J. Watson, Senior Vice President, Legal Accountability and Compliance for the Council of Community Services of New York
•    Moderated by Dr. George J. Papaioannou, Ph.D., C.V. Starr Distinguished Professor of Finance and Investment Banking, Hofstra Frank G. Zarb School of Business

The second panel will tackle bankruptcy and issues related to home foreclosures plaguing residents in New York and nationwide.

•    J. Scott Colesanti, Assistant Professor of Legal Writing and Research, Hofstra Law School
•    Jeffrey A. Wurst, Senior Partner, Ruskin Moscou Faltischek PC and Chairman of the Firm's Financial Services, Banking and Bankruptcy Department.
•    Moderated by Dr. Esmeralda Lyn, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Finance and International Financial Institutions, Hofstra Frank G. Zarb School of Business
