Hofstra Law scores highest bar pass rate in recent years

Hofstra Law School, Hempstead, N.Y. — Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner announced that 87.6% of Hofstra Law School’s New York State bar exam first-time test takers passed the July 2008 administration. This is the school’s highest pass rate in recent memory.

The 87.6% bar pass rate is 3.1% higher than last year’s pass rate. Hofstra Law School had 290 first-time test takers sit for the July 2008 exam, of which 254 passed. Of the record 11,176 total candidates sitting for the exam in New York, the overall pass rate for test takers was 74.7%. The average pass rate for first-time test takers from ABA accredited New York law schools increased to 91%, approximately 2% higher than last year’s rate.

“I congratulate the Class of 2008 on their individual and collective success,” said Dean Demleitner. “The high bar pass rate reflects a student body and faculty dedicated to academic excellence. Hofstra Law graduates are not only intelligent and well-trained professionals, but their hard work and dedication allow them to make an impact in the legal profession and their communities.”

U.S. News & World Report ranks Hofstra Law in the Top 100 law schools nationwide. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association. The Hofstra faculty includes internationally recognized scholars whose enthusiastic teaching has energized students since the inception of the Law School.

“The New York State bar exam results are incredibly promising,” continues Dean Demleitner. “This is the second year in a row that Law School graduates performed better than their predecessors. I am confident Hofstra Law students will continue to exceed our expectations.”
