DEAN NORA V. DEMLEITNER NAMED ONE OF
LONG ISLAND’S TOP 50 WOMEN

Hofstra University School of Law, Hempstead, NY: Nora V. Demleitner has been named, for the first time, one of Long Island’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business. The Long Island Business News launched the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business awards in 2000 to recognize the important role women play in Long Island's economy. The honorees represent the most influential women in business, government, education, and the not-for-profit fields, and are selected by a panel of business leaders based on professional accomplishments, mentoring and community involvement.

After serving as Interim Dean of Hofstra Law School from March of 2007, Ms. Demleitner was named Dean effective January 1, 2008. She was selected by Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz, after a comprehensive and competitive national search by a committee of faculty, administrators and trustees. She is the first woman to serve as dean of Hofstra Law School.

Dean Demleitner received her J.D. from Yale Law School, her B.A. from Bates College, and also holds an LL.M. with distinction in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law Center. After law school Dean Demleitner clerked for the Hon. Samuel A. Alito, Jr., then a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She testified in front of the U.S. Senate on behalf of Justice Alito's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dean Demleitner teaches and writes widely in the areas of criminal, comparative, and immigration law. Her special expertise is in sentencing and collateral sentencing consequences. Dean Demleitner is a managing editor of the Federal Sentencing Reporter, and serves on the executive editorial board of the American Journal of Comparative Law. She is the lead author of Sentencing Law and Policy, a major casebook on sentencing law, published by Aspen Law & Business. Her articles have appeared in the Stanford, Michigan, and Minnesota law reviews, among others. Dean Demleitner lectures widely in the United States and Europe. She has also been a visiting researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Germany, funded by a German Academic Exchange Service grant.
