Hofstra Law School Ranks in Top 100 ABA-Accredited Law Schools

Hofstra University School of Law, Hempstead, NY: Hofstra Law School has proudly rejoined U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of the top 100 ABA-accredited law schools. The Law School was also hailed as having one of the most diverse student bodies in the country.

The latest annual rankings were posted on the magazine’s Web site on Friday, March 28. The print version of the rankings is published in “America’s Best Graduate Schools 2009,” which was slated to hit newsstands on Monday, March 31.

“Hofstra Law School continues to be an exciting place for a legal education,” said Dean Nora V. Demleitner. “I am delighted by the progress we made in moving back into the top 100 law schools. While I may not fully agree with the methodology used in these rankings, I understand the impact it has on the value of a Hofstra Law School degree. The law school faculty and administration are committed to continue efforts to ensure Hofstra receives the recognition it deserves in the legal community.”

The rankings are based on a survey of academic and professional leaders about legal education programs and statistical indicators relating to a school’s faculty, research, and students. U.S. News & World Report promotes its "ranking" system as a way to synthesize a wide array of information to one number that allows comparisons of all ABA-accredited law schools.

It should be noted that these ranking systems have been criticized for failing to take the special needs and circumstances of each student into account when comparing schools.
