Hofstra University School of Law, Hempstead, NY: A research paper published by Blake K. Rohrbacher, an attorney at Richards, Layton & Finger, ranks law reviews by the number of judicial citations to various law reviews’ student notes. In this paper, titled “Twenty-Five Years of Student Scholarship in Judicial Opinions,” Hofstra Law Review falls in the top 20 law reviews whose student notes are cited most often by courts in the United States.
“The results of this research show that Hofstra Law Review has had a significant impact on the practice and application of law in this country,” said Nora Demleitner, Interim Dean and Professor of Law at Hofstra. “I am proud of our students and the influence their scholarship has had on common-lawmaking.”
The paper examines patterns in judicial citation of student notes, surveying a data set of opinions citing notes written in the past 25 years from all levels of U.S. courts, including data on the location, level, and nature of each court citing, each note, and the years in which each note was cited.
