William R. Ginsberg Memorial Summer Fellowship In Environmental Law
Hofstra Law School is pleased to announce the creation of the William R. Ginsberg Memorial Summer Fellowship in Environmental Law. This Fellowship is being established through the Estate of Marian O. Naumberg, and honors Professor Ginsberg, a pioneer in the field of environmental law who taught at Hofstra Law for 29 years.
The Ginsberg Fellowship, which begins during the summer of 2010, will award a stipend in the amount of $7,500 to up to two (2) promising Hofstra Law students to pursue public interest environmental work. Through a special arrangement with the Natural Resources Defense Council (the “NRDC”), the Fellowship recipient(s) will have the opportunity to be considered for a position in the NRDC’s prestigious and highly competitive summer internship program. All students who have completed their first year of law school are eligible to apply.
The recipient(s) of the Ginsberg Fellowship will be selected through an application process that will include submission of a written application (including a statement of interest, resume, legal writing sample and academic transcript) and an interview for selected candidates. Criteria for selection of the Fellowship recipient(s) will include, among other things:
- Academic excellence, particularly in the field of environmental law;
- Demonstrated commitment to the environment;
- Demonstrated commitment to public service; and
- Diversity.
Applications for the Ginsberg Fellowship must be received no later than September 1, 2009, and may be delivered to Assistant Dean Michael Ende in the Office of Career Services by hand or email (lawmje@hofstra.edu).
