Alfredo Tapia
|
From sunny California, Alfredo Tapia graduated from the University of California Berkeley, attaining a B.A. in Political Science and Legal Studies. Alfredo’s interest in supporting the LGBT community stems from his own personal experiences including coming out to his family, his observance of the limitations of opportunities and rights placed on the LGBT community, and his struggle against racial and sexual discrimination in the workplace.
While a student at Berkeley, Alfredo participated in the school organization Queer Diversion, encouraging LGBT members to congregate together to plan and carry out events that would spread LGBT awareness throughout campus and the community. Alfredo also participated in other organizations including, Queer & Asian and Y-Que!, providing an avenue for LGBT members of similar cultural backgrounds to share their experiences and advise and support one another.
Working for the law firm of Katzoff & Riggs, Alfredo has witnessed the positive impact the law can have on minority groups. He plans to pursue a legal career protecting and representing minority civil rights.
