Professor Mark Padin recently joined Hofstra Law as associate professor of academic support. In this role, he will be charged with helping law students meet the scholastic demands of law school and develop the skills to realize their full academic potential through workshops, seminars and individual counseling. Professor Padin also will organize events that focus on the analytical and organizational skills specific to preparation for the New York state bar examination.

Professor Padin comes to Hofstra Law with a strong background in academic support. He was formerly director of academic support for Pace Law School. In that role, he directed a comprehensive academic support program for approximately 750 law students. Professor Padin also administered the Dean’s Scholars Study Group program, providing supplemental tutoring for first-year substantive courses, and coordinated a supplemental bar preparation program, emphasizing the multistate and essay portions of the examination, among other responsibilities.

Before Pace, Professor Padin worked at Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. While there, he served as both associate director of the Academic Resource program and a visiting professor. One of his courses — Lawyering Skills and Values I & II — focused on helping first-year law students develop lawyering, ethics, and legal writing and research skills.

Professor Padin also previously held academic-support and faculty positions at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, the University of West Los Angeles and the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law.

From 1993-1998, Professor Padin was a sole practitioner in Santa Rosa, Calif., in general civil litigation, focusing on environmental, insurance, personal injury and immigration matters. Before that he worked at Rivkin, Radler & Kremer as an associate attorney, and in the California public defender’s office.

Professor Padin received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law. He also holds a Master of Science degree in human development and family studies from Pennsylvania State University. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Brockport.
