Biography

Professor Strong received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Virginia, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center as an E. Barrett Prettyman Fellow. He practiced both as a federal prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney in the District of Columbia, and taught for seven years at the University of Virginia School of Law. He has been a Visiting Professor at a number of law schools across the nation, including UCLA, Cornell, George Washington, Texas and Wake Forest. He was voted Professor of the Year at Santa Clara University School of Law in 2003, and is a two-time recipient of the Award to a Visitor for Excellence in Teaching at the University of San Diego School of Law (in 2004 and 2008). He has chaired the AALS Section on Clinical Legal Education, and proposed and initiated the formation of the independent Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA).

Professor Strong teaches and writes in the fields of Evidence, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Professional Responsibility. Among his publications are "The Lawyer's Left Hand: Nonanalytical Thought in the Practice of Law," in the University of Colorado Law Review, and "Fault, Threat and the Predicates of Criminal Liability," in the Wisconsin Law Review.
