Biography

Professor Hayden received his law degree with distinction from Stanford Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and a Master of Arts in art history from the University of Kansas. At Kansas, he taught the history of Western art and led efforts to organize the graduate teaching assistants into a collective bargaining unit. As a law student, he was an editor of the Stanford Law Review and the Stanford Law and Policy Review, and a member of the Order of the Coif. Professor Hayden served as a law clerk to Judge Deanell Reece Tacha of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and worked as an associate at the Washington, D.C., law firm of Shea & Gardner.

Professor Hayden teaches and writes in the areas of labor law, employment discrimination, and voting rights. His recent publications include articles in the California, Fordham, Michigan, and North Carolina Law Reviews. He has been chosen by four graduating classes to be the faculty commencement speaker.
