Alumni and Student Services

We encourage students to use their time in law school as an opportunity for career exploration. Whether you are trying to decide between practice in a law firm, government agency or public interest organization, or simply attempting to figure out whether you want to litigate or focus on a transactional practice, OCS will provide the guidance and coaching you need to make informed career choices. Our services include:

  • Individualized, one-on-one career counseling sessions
  • Interview skills training
  • Development of realistic job search acquisition strategies
  • Career- and professional-development-related workshops, programs, seminars and panel discussions
  • On- and off-campus recruiting programs
  • Participation in a variety of job and career fairs throughout New York and across the United States
  • Access to thousands of job postings on Symplicity, Hofstra Law’s online Career Services Management System
  • Networking skills training and participation in networking events with alumni and employers
  • Access to a wide variety of online resources, including The Government Honors and Internship Handbook, PSLawNet and The Guide to State Judicial Clerkships, as well as our own Guide to the Job Search and Public Interest Career Planning blog (Some of these resources are password-protected; alumni and students should contact OCS for login information.)
  • For students and alumni who are seeking employment outside New York, reciprocal relationships with the career services offices of most law schools across the country
  • Access to OCS-maintained computers, fax machines, printers and copiers for employment purposes only
