Curriculum and Faculty
Hofstra is one of the only law schools in the country to require all first year law students to take a course in Transnational Law. This unique course provides a foundation on which students can build their understanding of the relationships between U.S. law and international business, legal, social and political issues. It also provides the introduction that allows upper class students to select from nearly 30 advanced courses in international and comparative law, from
European Union Law to
International Human Rights, from
International Business Transactions to
Law of the Sea. We also offer rich opportunities for students to acquire international law skills training through offerings such as our
Political Asylum Law Clinic and our International Moot Arbitration Team, which competes each year in Vienna, Austria.
Hofstra is able to offer such a wide range of courses in International and Comparative Law because of the unique strength of our faculty who teach in this area. We have one of the strongest, most intellectually diverse international and comparative law faculties in the country, comprised of professors who are both dedicated scholars and highly skilled teachers. In addition, we have regular faculty exchanges with European law schools who are members of the European American Consortium on Legal Education (EACLE), and frequently host leading international law scholars for short and long-term visits.
