Overview

Hofstra Law School’s international law programs reflect a fundamental reality of law practice in the 21st century: in a world where people, nations and transactions have become increasingly interconnected, legal problems are much less likely to be purely domestic matters. To prepare students for the new reality of practicing law in a global legal environment, Hofstra Law has established a broad range of programs and course offerings that examine transnational law, provide exposure to other legal cultures and create opportunities to interact with foreign law students both on campus and abroad. We are proud to be at the leading edge of international legal education on every front: curriculum, faculty, student exchange opportunities, study abroad, transnational graduate legal education, international internships, and student publications and activities.

Curriculum and Faculty

Hofstra is one of the only law schools in the country to require all first year law students to take a course in Transnational Law. This unique course provides a foundation on which students can build their understanding of the relationships between U.S. law and international business, legal, social and political issues. It also provides the introduction that allows upper class students to select from numerous advanced courses in international and comparative law, including European Union Law, International Human Rights, International Business Transactions, International Commercial Arbitration and International Institutions. We also offer rich opportunities for students to acquire international and transnational law skills training through offerings such as our Political Asylum Law Clinic and our International Moot Arbitration Team, which competes each year in Vienna, Austria.

Hofstra is able to offer such a wide range of courses in and Comparative Law because of the unique strength of our faculty who teach in this area. We have one of the strongest, most intellectually diverse international and comparative law faculties in the country, comprised of professors who are both dedicated scholars and highly skilled teachers. In addition, we have regular faculty exchanges with European law schools which are members of the European American Consortium on Legal Education (EACLE), and frequently host leading international law scholars for short and long-term visits.

The following is a list of full-time faculty members at Hofstra who teach in the areas of International and Comparative Law:
