Interdisciplinary Education

The core of the Center for Children, Families and the Law is its interdisciplinary training program for Hofstra law students. The program includes:
  • Interdisciplinary classes aimed at familiarizing future lawyers and mental health professionals with each other's language, values and professional conduct. Specialized courses covering a broad range of topics, including child advocacy, domestic violence, forensics, expert witnesses, litigation and alternatives to litigation, mediation and family law practice. Traditional classroom instruction, simulations, a live client clinic and a research seminar are all part of the educational experience.
  • Child Advocacy Clinic
  • Externships at the courts, legal aid organizations, and social service agencies provide opportunities for law students to broaden their exposure to all aspects of family law practice.Click here to see a list of recent externship placements.
  • Students can become involved with the Center through the Child and Family Advocacy Fellowship or as Associates of the Center.
